St THomas is guided by seven affirmations

  • We affirm the way of Jesus.

The life and teaching of Jesus is our clearest picture of God and our guide for life together. We seek to follow Christ in love, mercy, justice, and radical welcome.

  • We affirm the transforming work of God in every life.

God is always inviting all people further into the reality of the Resurrection in the kindom of God and deeper into who God created us to be. Our life in Christ is not simply about belief but is an ongoing journey of transformation.

  • We affirm our dependence on the Spirit of God.

We rely on the Holy Spirit to guide our discernment, challenge our biases, comfort our fears, and realign us daily with the mission of God on Earth.

  • We affirm humanity’s role as partners in God’s work of restoration..

We believe God’s mission on Earth is to re-establish Shalom. As followers of Jesus, we join in this work by loving our neighbors, seeking justice, caring for creation, and practicing rest.

  • We affirm the church as a community of praxis.

The Church is a fellowship of people learning how to actually live like Jesus. Together we grow by letting the life and teachings of Jesus shape our habits, actions, and rhythms today.

  • We affirm the reality of freedom in Christ

We hold our convictions with humility, choosing to honor the diversity of tradition within the family of God. We find our unity not through uniformity of belief, but through our shared love of God, neighbor, and creation.

  • We affirm The Bible as our sacred guide.

The Bible is God's enduring word to humanity. It is not a rulebook to enforce but a story to enter. As we read, study, and listen together, Scripture opens us to the God who is always forming us into greater wholeness and love.

A Word About Belief at St. Thomas

St. Thomas is a Pietist faith community. In this tradition, we center our belonging in our shared life in Christ rather than in doctrinal conformity. Therefore, our affirmations are not intended to function as a litmus test for belonging, but as a shared orientation toward the way of Jesus.

We affirm that orthodoxy holds a diversity of theological perspectives. Rather than demanding uniformity of belief, we commit to walking together in humility, remembering that “now we see through a mirror dimly.”

We are bound together in our shared commitment to:

  • follow the way of Jesus

  • love our neighbors

  • cultivate communities of belonging

  • and participate in God’s work of healing the world.

Everyone is welcome at St. Thomas. No one is excluded from any aspect of life in this community on the basis of age, race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or education. At St Thomas it’s not that you can belong before you believe; at St Thomas you can belong. Period.
